1863 Springfield Armory Musket Conversion to 50-70 Trapdoor

Original Springfield Armory 1863 Musket that was converted to 50-70 in 1870

Overall condition is very excellent. Very sharp cartouche. 

1000 were converted in 1870 making this a very rare gun in this condition

P cartouche is stamped under stock

Lock plate is marked US Springfield 1863 with eagle

Breech block is clearly marked US under eagle with clear 1870 over eagle

(This is not marked Model 1870 on the breech block. This indicates the date of manufacture. The 1870 models made in 1871 and 1872 were marked Model 1870 on the breech block. This is the first year with the barrel change as opposed to relining the 1863 model barrel in previous years. There were 10,000 of the 1870 model made in 1871 and 1872. The barrel is also serial numbered to the gun)

Barrel bands are stamped with U

Bayonet is also in excellent condition with very strong US stamp. Does not have frog

Original cleaning rod

Comes with plaque with original internally primed copper cased 50-70 cartridge

Cartridge is excellent condition and appears to date from 1868-1870

Also has modern replacement leather sling
